Repositioning Cruises Are Easy on the Travel Budget

Most of our ancestors arrived in America on a boat. This is a part of our history as individuals and as a nation. Different ancestors arrived on different ships at different times, for different reasons, but they all had one thing in common; Destination: America.

The Cruise Line Industry has built a billion dollar industry on this one common thread.

And what an industry it is.

Exquisite food, top of the line entertainment, Las Vegas style casinos, computer cafes, movies under the stars, ice skating, rock climbing, massage therapy, beauty solons, discos, pizza, day games at the pool, library, cigar room, bingo, art auctions, talent shows, and best of all, shore excursions, packaged with GREAT customer service surrounded by unique luxury.

Individuals who have not cruised before may want to explore a 3 day cruise departing from Los Angeles, San Diego, Miami, or Ft Lauderdale. These 3 day cruises are extremely affordable and will help you determine if you would enjoy a longer cruise.

Then there are the 2 or 3 night cruises called "repositioning cruises". This is when major cruise lines reposition cruise ships from the South America to North America. For those of us in San Francisco, we usually can embark on cruise ships repositioning from South America to Alaska. These mega ships stop in Los Angeles, San Francisco and now Seattle before arriving in Vancouver and then on to Alaska.

These cruises are listed as "cruises to nowhere" or "Costal Cruises" Regardless of what you call them, they are extremely affordable. Why? Because they do not return you to port or origin.

We usually disembark in Vancouver. Vancouver is a beautiful city that reminds me of San Francisco. However, I have noticed that more and more passengers are cruising on to Alaska from San Francisco. I suppose the Cruise Lines noticed this too - because starting in 2007 Princess Cruise Lines offers cruises from San Francisco to Alaska in the summer and San Francisco to Mexico in the winter.

The sheer excitement of cruising off into the sunset is an experience that you will never forget.

Cruising under the Golden Gate Bridge is a memorable moment within itself.
